Discover your authentic voice, your inner strength, your True North.
Hi! I’m so glad you’re here.
Welcome to True North Emotional Wellness! My name is Vanessa and I’m a mental health counselor with a background in addictions counseling and advanced training in mind-body healing and wellness. True North was inspired both by my personal healing journey and by witnessing the journeys of countless clients that I have had the honor to work with over the years.
Living and connecting authentically to oneself and others is the foundation of my work as a counselor and a daily practice for me as an individual. I believe that the root of a lot of psychological suffering stems from disconnection from our true selves and others in our world. This can show up as low self-esteem, identity issues, difficulty making decisions, struggles with boundaries or people pleasing, relational distress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain or other somatic symptoms. Oftentimes this occurs because as children our authenticity and our emotional experiences were not accepted. As a result, defense mechanisms are often learned in childhood when one learns to shut down their emotions and authenticity in the name of connection with their caregivers. Unfortunately, these ways of turning away from our internal experience can carry through into adulthood and add to our suffering.
In our work together, we would collaboratively get to know your system and the root causes of the disconnection in your life which are causing your current struggles. At your own pace we would begin to explore your authentic experience and reconnect to your internal compass so that you can learn to trust yourself, finding your true north. If this sounds aligned with your goals, feel free to look around to learn more about what I offer and reach out with any questions you may have. I truly look forward to meeting you.

I am an out-of-network (OON) provider. This means that I do not take insurance for my services. Paying privately for counseling services allows you the freedom to choose the therapist that is best for you, offers you greater privacy and confidentiality regarding your mental health diagnoses and treatment and, overall, gives you more control over your healing journey.
I accept cash, credit, HSA and FSA payments. I can also provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network benefits, called a Superbill.
If you would like to use a Superbill for our counseling sessions, please reach out to your insurance company prior to your first appointment and ask the following questions:
~What percentage is reimbursed for each out-of-network psychotherapy session?
~Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per calendar year?
~Do I need to meet a deductible before I can receive reimbursement?
~Do I need preauthorization for psychotherapy or a referral from my primary care physician?
